NextVista Video Critiques

Oceanographic Scientist: http://www.nextvista.org/oceanographic-scientist/
I was impressed with the layout and concept of this video. The images were appropriate and informational. I thought that the virtual tour of the ship was a nice addition to the video. The presenter spoke directly to the camera and the images corresponded well to each topic she was referring to.

Some of the information presented in the video was a bit vague. I came away from the video unsure of what exactly oceanographic scientists do (which was the objective of the video.) Much of the information presented was unclear and ill-structured.

If I had created this video, I would have focused on one area of oceanographic science. I would had discussed what that area of study focused on, the impact it has on the earth and careers that are available to those who focus on that subject. I would have included pictures of tools that are used by scientists in that given field and some video of scientists performing research.

Hamlet: http://www.nextvista.org/hamlet/
I found the concept of this video to be extremely creative. Students created a mock news broadcast to re-create major events from Hamlet. I loved how each student played a different role (broadcaster, victim, etc.) It was evident that the students displayed a clear understanding and appreciation of the play. This video would be a nice tool for teachers to assess their students with. I thought the use of quotes from the play made the video interesting and it allowed students to break-down Shakespearean language for their viewers.

The audio did not correlate to the images in the video. At times the speakers voices were a bit garbled and difficult to comprehend. The scenes also transitioned a bit too rapidly.

If I had created this video I would have included more visuals. Adding some pictures from the time period that Hamlet takes place in would enhance the video as well as incorporating some traditional dress into the video.

Continental Drift: http://www.nextvista.org/continental-drift/
I enjoyed the use of claymation in this video. It provided a creative, detailed representation of the affects that Continental Drift has on the Earth.

There was no audio on this video and the concepts were typed in a brief sentence and not explained. As a student, I would find this video a bit confusing and complicated.

If i had created this video, I would have incorporated detailed audio that would explain each of the concepts that I chose to illustrate. I would also add more detailed visuals to accompany my audio.
